People that work here are great, but Alabama's tax system for motor vehicles is a complete and total disaster, and more transparency is needed for pricing on registration fees on your tax notice that gets mailed to you... If you have a vehicle sitting and not being driven, you have to "surrender" your tag, and then buy another one when you want to drive it again. So if you have to do that within a year of your renewal date, you have to pay for TWO tags in ONE year. Ridiculous if you ask me. Alabama needs change. Tired of having to pay for these cops to buy their chewing tobacco and nicotine vapes... I also know an Army veteran who wanted to switch their tag from Georgia to Alabama and they were going to charge over $200 and Georgia gives you a free vehicle tag if you're a veteran. Alabama is just in it for the money.

I would like to commend this office for the efficiency and friendliness of the employees. I went in recently to pay property tax and April was so nice and professional. I've also had great service from the vehicle tag side, previously. So thankful for such an efficient and friendly office for DeKalb County.

The layout of the Revenue Office is good. It has a lot of potential for improvement. They now have 9 windows but, I have never seen them use more than 3 or 4 at a time. If your handicapped your going to possibly have a tough time taking care of your business there. They have a great wheelchair ramp to get inside and plenty room for a wheelchair or mobility scooter. Getting one close enough to the windows and being able to see the person who's helping you will be a challenge. If you can't stand up for long periods of time there is no place to sit down at all. It was quite a long wait in line and the lady who helped me was very slow about everything she done. She seen that I was using a cane and getting shaky and weak. Plus, she was issuing me a handicap license plate. She clearly knew it was a challenge for me. She never offered a place to sit down or asked if I was ok. She was just taking her sweet time and not caring. Standing at the window I was having a hard time hearing her and had to ask her to speak up and repeat things multiple times. She acted like I had deeply offended her each time I asked. Other people at windows were also having to ask staff to speak up so they could hear. They just sit to far away from the window for a person to hear them. The lady who helped me was a very snide and rude person. I always try to take into account that maybe someone has given them a hard time or even possibly cussed them out etc. Still, it shouldn't effect how the next person is treated. She was asking me for a certain paper and I gave her the wrong one because I didn't hear her right and, she just slid her hand under the window and slapped it down and snatched all my papers and it took my wallet with them as she said "I guess I have to do it" very rudely. There was no excuse for it. They definitely have room to improve their service. They should also add a few seats for the handicapped so we don't have to try standing in a line that went all the way out the door.

Thankfully it's the tag office and we can do most of what we need via the internet now, which is what I'll be doing from now on and, is what I recommend everyone else do as well.

Just avoid the place if you can.
