I am a contractor who completed a fire restoration project for one of my clients. My client got homeowners insurance through DeWitt Insurance Agency, which assigned Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company to cover the policy.

I started a fire restoration project for my client that cost more than the unrealistic and grossly underestimated amount Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company initially sent my client. I was told to continue completing the project with my funds, send them the invoice, and they would reimburse me. Throughout the project, I aimed to make this family whole and deliver a quality product so they could leave living in a hotel and return home. Upon completion in September 2024, I sent them an invoice, pictures, receipts, and proof that inspections were completed as they instructed me to do. They gave me the run around for about 3 months, then sent me two checks totaling 29,123.24 out of the $69,308.23 they owed me. Since then, I have been lied to, promised, and given the run around to receive the remaining $40,184.99. The people handling the claim don't answer phone calls or emails, and the people at customer service don't know what's happening when I call. I believe this company is running a Ponzi scheme that pays existing policyholders money from new policyholders. They rely on constant new funds to pay off earlier claims. I have been trying to be patient with them, but I believe that their process regarding paying out for claims is broken or non-existent. At this point, I did everything I promised that I was hired to do. I can only wait with hope that this ordeal does not turn into a drawn-out legal battle to receive the $40,184.99 owed to me.

The bottom line is that I expect an insurance agency to research companies they do business with rather than receive a commission and leave customers out to dry when the time comes to put in a claim. Whatever you do, don't allow Dewitt Insurance Agency to assign Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company to cover your policy.

DeWayne Ladner is a scam artist! He tried to commit wire fraud on my bank account TWO YEARS after I was a customer! Really thought better of this company until now, be careful what information they have as they may try to steal from you as they did me! Guess they thought they were going to steal my stimulus check, well guess what?! I don’t even use that account anymore! Nice try though, it’ll be in the polices hands now!
