Please make sure to do your due diligence (like I did not) before hiring so that you can know never to hire Carrie as so many people had a similar experience to me.

There are many, many issues, that happened consistently. I understand that people have personal things that are going on, but after months of mistakes and poor communication, there are no excuses.

1st) when filing, I gave her all of my income in a very clear to read spreadsheet. Thankfully I knew how much total I had made because when she filed my taxes, she wrote that I made much less than I did. Obviously a big mistake, but I corrected her and she fixed it and we moved on.

2nd) We purchased a home several weeks after filing our taxes. When our mortgage company was going through our taxes, they found another one of her mistakes. She put my business under my husbands name rather than mine. We could not continue on with our loan process until she fixed this. Not only did she make another huge mistake but she took weeks to fix it and therefore postponed our loan. Even after explaining the urgency of the matter, she took weeks to fix it. (This also wasn’t during busy tax season so there is no reason to have taken this long)

3rd) After having been in business for many years, for the first time after hiring an accountant, I was audited. Because of the mistakes she made, they said we owed over twice as much money as when we filed. She said she would fix her mistakes. The due date for the money came and went and after 10 days late and her still having poor responses and no excuse for being so late and having not done it still, we had to hire an additional accountant.

These are just a few of the many things gone wrong. I always will give people grace but after so many mistakes and the inability and unwillingness to fix them, I can’t believe she is still in business. Please do yourself a favor and never hire them.

Carrie agreed to help me with my individual and S-corp taxes. We had a brief phone call, which was nice to be able to explain my situation. After that call, however, her communication with me took a major turn for the worst. The biggest running themes during my interactions (or lack thereof) with Carrie are: 1) saying she will complete something by a specific time, and then not completing it; and 2) not responding to my emails. On numerous occasions, I had to send a follow-up email a week or so later just to prompt her to respond. In fact, one of the things Carrie did for me was to tell me she would provide me my estimated taxes for quarter 4 by end of day on the due date "at the latest", and then completely ghost me. So...my estimated taxes were late (I will likely incur a penalty), because I erroneously trusted her as a "professional" to actually complete a task she said she would complete. I don't know how to explain Carrie's utter lack of professionalism, but I do not think she even has a license to practice accounting and tax preparation, so maybe it's a scam. If I were anyone looking for accounting and tax help, I would not trust Carrie Ausmus to actually complete them.
