Their mechanics are all students at the University. They are priced accordingly, which is good, but their mechanics do sometimes make mistakes which more experienced mechanics would avoid. They will try to fix their mistakes, though, if you point them out.

The annoying thing about bike mechanics (as compared to car mechanics) is that car mechanics understand that not having your car is a severe inconvenience, so they will let you make an appointment and then promise you'll get your car back in a few hours. Most bike places want you to just drop off your bike, and they'll get to it when they have time; they aren't organized enough to allow for appointments and so on.

These guys are pretty quick as bike stores go, but it's still annoying to be missing my bike (which I use to commute) for a few days. Also, the walk away from (and then back to) this store, to and from the academic part of campus, without my bike, is pretty long and pretty steep—the University of Arkansas is a big campus and they are at the far end of it.

The additional wrinkle here is that they won't give out individual workers' schedules—which is true at most establishments, to be fair—but they have so few mechanics that this means they can't tell you when there will be a mechanic in at all. So even if you have a problem that will take them five minutes to fix, and come in during the less busy season, you might have to leave your bike and come back anyway, just because you weren't lucky enough to arrive during the secret mechanic hours.

I brought my bike in to get the brakes replaced. I had to spend quite some time arguing with the mechanic to get them to actually replace the brake pads—they were not completely worn down, but walking to and from the bike store when I don't have my bike is fairly annoying and I wanted to not have to come back for a while.

They did a poor job installing the brake pads--my bike made a constant squeaking noise whenever I rode it.

I don't know enough about bike repair and don't have the tools to fix this. They told me to come back and they'd fix it. After I talked to the receptionist, and complained about not being given the mechanics' hours, and wrote a much more negative version of this Google review, the manager reached out to me and offered to make an appointment just for me. I did appreciate this, but it was a special exception; I can't expect such treatment in general.

I go here to boulder and sport climb 2-3 days a week. The staff is awesome, and it’s free for students. They even supply shoes and harnesses, and if you want to get belay certified they can teach you and let you take the test!

UREC outdoors also rents out a wide variety of outdoors equipment from sleeping bags and tents to kayaks!

You can rent the climbing wall for events. We had a terrific birthday party there! The students who were belaying were wonderful with the kids.
