I would give them zero stars if I could and I’m not surprised to see a 1.8 star rating on this company’s profile. My dad has COPD and is on oxygen and requires oxygen to survive and they just cut off his electric and refused to turn it back on without a astronomical unjustified payment. They’re charging us more than $1000 for one month of electricity. This company is terrible and has been hateful to us for no one justified reason I overcharged us for several years and won’t even turn back on the oxygen a few minutes early to ensure my father survival they want money instead.

The response time for outages is abysmal at best. They take 6 hours to replace a pole and re hang lines on a sunny day when I've worked with other power companies that only take1-2 hours to do the same job in hurricanes.

I would like to thank the SVEC - Winchester Office for the fine service we have always received from them. It has been a very long time since we have lost our power, they remove limbs that hinder the lines, and show support to customers in our ares. Also today I had to visit the office to remove someone from my account. The lady that assisted me was very nice and very caring. So glad to have this opportunity to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO.

Has anyone else had an issue with Shenandoah Electric Co-op not responding to possible public safety issues? I reached out to them over 2 months ago and they gave me a run around and haven't taken the report serious. This is not my only concern.

This is prob the worst electric company, power outages on the regular, inconsistent billing. Makes it hard for someone working at home but at least I have a generator. Worst part was had my son in the hospital for a couple of months and electric bill was the last thing on my mind. Came home to cut off power, called and had them reconnect, took about 8 hours for the reconnection. Then they through and extra $70 on top of my bill. Oh well, what options do you have.

Very poor communication. I highly suggest you call regularly to make sure your payments have gone through.

Sorry for posting from an anonymous account. I have a unique name and other family. members living in the area, but I need to say what I need to say about this terrible company.

I assumed my SVEC account was current. I just received 3 letters in the mail all at the same time. A bill, a notice of pending termination, and a letter requesting a 3 month deposit because my payment history is "unsatisfactory".

To be clear, I pay all of my bills on time. I don't have anything in collections. My credit history is great. I pay every bill as soon as I get it, and am rarely late with anything unless by some mistake in processing.

I'm not sure if they even sent me my bill for March, or if it got lost in the mail. Sure, I should have noticed that I didn't get a bill. But like most people, I have much more important things to worry about than if certain bills arrive on time or not.

Still.

This is inappropriate. This exact situation has happened with me before with SVEC. I was frustrated but I just went along with what they told me to do. Both of my next door neighbors say it has happened to them at least once as well.

A normal, sane thing to do would be to send the second bill (with the late notice and late fees), wait 3-4 weeks, then if no payment has been received, send termination notices with a reasonable window of time for termination. I'm not sure what other companies normally do, but I think that you can expect for a few bills to get lost in the mail when you have hundreds of thousands of customers.

I attached the only bill I've seen from them since February. Notice the "statement date" is April 10th, the termination threat is April 13th, and I did not receive this letter in the mail until April 16th. How on earth could that be considered a reasonable way to do business? They're expecting customers to receive a letter in the mail and pay it within 3 days of sending the letter. I didn't receive the letter for 6 days. I called and tried to explain this to them, but they just gave me the runaround and refused to take responsibility for anything.

I love to support local businesses to the best of my ability, but not when they behave like this. I'm looking forward to finding a different electric company.
