In Nov 2024 decided to cancel my bundled home and auto insurance policy with GEICO after finding a better rate with State Farm. I regularly compare rates and occasionally switch between providers. This time, however, the experience with GEICO was frustrating and disappointing.

When I called to cancel, I clearly stated that I was switching to a new bundled policy through State Farm, which included both home and auto insurance. Despite this, GEICO only canceled the home policy and continued charging me for auto coverage—something I didn’t realize until I checked my bank statement later in April (we pay in full every 6 months).

Upon contacting GEICO again, I was told I needed to speak to separate departments to cancel each type of insurance—even though I had a bundled policy. That was never made clear to me during the cancellation process. I provided proof that I had already secured both home and auto coverage with State Farm, yet GEICO only issued a month refund, not the full amount I had paid while being double-insured.

This situation could have been avoided if GEICO had clearer procedures in place and trained staff to ask the right questions when someone is canceling a bundled policy. I’m the customer—not the insurance expert. It’s not my responsibility to navigate their internal departmental structure.

Overall, this experience left a bad impression. It felt like GEICO was more focused on retaining payments than doing right by the customer. Unfortunately, due to this lack of transparency and poor service, I won’t be returning to GEICO in the future and would advise others to proceed with caution.
